By exploring advanced cases in this field from around the world, we will gain insight into how technology is redefining elder care and integrating it into social systems, policy-making, and the daily lives of individuals.
In many countries around the world, governments have actively sought cooperation with technology companies to improve the effectiveness of elder care through data analysis and intelligent systems. In South Korea, the government launched the "Smart Care" project, which uses IoT technology to collect physiological and daily activity data from the elderly, and transmits this data to a central database for analysis. Once the system alerts to potential health risks, the medical team can provide appropriate care and intervention in a timely manner. On the other hand, Canada's "AGE-WELL" program is also a model, focusing on innovative technology to strengthen Canada's overall long-term care system by developing specialized technologies for home care and communities for the elderly.
Multi-party collaboration plays a crucial role in applying technology to elder care. Through the integrated application of ICT, IoT, AI, and aging technology, resources and expertise from multiple units such as medical institutions, community clinics, and pharmacies can be effectively integrated, and the overall care capacity of the community can be strengthened. Singapore's "Smart Nation" initiative is an example, with one sub-project, "Eldercare," experimenting with smart home solutions using various sensors to track the activities and health status of the elderly, and sharing this information with family members and caregivers through a cloud platform, making the care network more cohesive. For example, in Europe, Finland's "Oulu" project aims to create a digital, open, and interconnected ecosystem that connects businesses, citizens, and governments to jointly develop and implement smart living and healthcare solutions for the elderly. Australia's "Silver Economy" strategy also places great emphasis on integrating technology into the lives of older adults, for example, by promoting various apps to help them more conveniently manage their health and social lives, and by utilizing telemedicine services to improve access to medical resources for older adults living in remote areas.
As emphasized in the preface, the application of technology in elder care will be key to the future development of society. At the practical level, through the integrated development of hardware and software for health and rehabilitation services for middle-aged and elderly people, the introduction of diverse living circles to expand the scope of services, and the completion of a healthcare network connecting community life information and medical services, we can concretely realize the changes that technology brings to the lives of the elderly. Taking Toyama Prefecture in Japan as an example, the local government and private sector jointly launched a platform called "Yui," which not only integrates local medical and community resources to provide comprehensive support for the elderly, from health monitoring to medical services, but also extends to diverse living services such as meal delivery and shopping assistance. The launch of this platform is not only about caring for individual elderly people, but also about the comprehensive care and maximization of resources for the entire community, embodying the perfect combination of technology and social systems in the field of care. When technology can be deeply integrated into the social structure, and when it becomes a link connecting government policies, community resources, families, and individuals, the future of an aging society can move towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant direction.
