Navigating Future Healthcare: Overcoming the Challenges of Aging and Building a Data-Driven, Personalized Medical Journey

航向未來的健康照護:跨越老齡化挑戰,打造數據驅動的個人化醫療之旅

In the pulse of today's society, we observe an increasingly evident global phenomenon—population aging—and the many challenges it brings are becoming more prominent. As the elderly population continues to expand, the corresponding demand for care also shows an upward trend. In this era of an aging society, ensuring the health and safety of the elderly population has become an unavoidable issue. According to the latest report from the United Nations (2021), by 2050, the global population aged 65 and over will increase to 1.6 billion, accounting for more than 16% of the global population. This aging trend undoubtedly places significant pressure on existing healthcare systems.

The primary challenge lies in data fragmentation. When patients receive treatment at different medical institutions, their medical records are often scattered across various databases. This not only diminishes data availability and accessibility but also severely hinders the continuity and completeness of medical services, leading to unequal resource allocation and inefficient care processes. For individuals with special care needs, such as those with disabilities or multiple chronic illnesses, a highly personalized and continuous care plan is even more crucial. However, under the current system, these individuals often struggle to receive equal resources and attention, and their care plans may be compromised due to limited medical resources, thus failing to fully meet their needs.

As we delve into the numerous challenges of this healthcare system, the power of technology and data integration begins to emerge as a key tool for improving service quality and efficiency. We explore in detail the process and application of smart healthcare solutions developed through the integration of health insurance data and AIoT measurement equipment. Within this context, the core concept of "initial disease" aims to prevent or delay related health problems to improve an individual's overall health status and quality of life. This is achieved by establishing a unified platform to integrate data scattered across different medical institutions, utilizing AI technology to analyze this data, and combining AIoT devices to continuously monitor patients' physiological indicators, thereby formulating personalized health management and care plans.

We have explored the process, applications, challenges, and solutions of smart healthcare. Next, we will highlight the widespread application of smart healthcare technology in data collection, analysis, sharing, and its use in predicting and managing individual and population health through practical international case studies.

1.Google Health Studies

Google launched an application called "Google Health Studies" to collect participants' health data for various health-related research. This app allows users to choose which studies to participate in and easily share their health data from their phones. Data collection and analysis are automated, making it convenient for tracking and researching the development and changes of various health conditions.

2.Apple HealthKit and ResearchKit

Apple's HealthKit and ResearchKit provide a platform that can integrate personal health data collected from various sources (such as smartwatches and other wearables) and use this data for health research. The data is anonymized and used to support various clinical studies, which not only helps expand the sample size for research but also enables more long-term, real-time data tracking.

3.DeepMind’s Streams

Google's DeepMind developed an application called Streams, whose purpose is to quickly and accurately transmit patient data to medical professionals. It can receive and analyze patient health data in real-time and issue alerts when anomalies occur. For example, in the UK, Streams has successfully helped caregivers identify and address patients' kidney failure risks in advance.

4.Smart Home Care Solutions

In some countries (e.g., the United States, Sweden, etc.), smart home technology has begun to be adopted to provide remote monitoring and real-time support for elderly individuals or patients with chronic diseases who require special care. These technologies utilize IoT devices (e.g., smart medical devices, environmental monitors, and smart home devices) to collect data, and AI analyzes this data to observe and identify potential health risks, such as falls, strokes, or other sudden events.

Through the analysis of international cases, we see that future medical care will exhibit trends towards greater intelligence, personalization, and efficiency. With the spread of data, we understand that smart care is not just a future outlook; it has completely transformed our understanding and expectations of the healthcare system. In an era where the needs of each individual can be addressed, every medical interaction is precisely recorded, and every piece of data is fully utilized, healthcare will no longer be a cold medical procedure but a journey full of human care and technological wisdom.
